Jennifer Brown Recipient of NYCLA “Public Service Award”

The Federal Defenders of New York is proud to announce that Jennifer L. Brown, Attorney-in-Charge of the Southern District of New York, is the recipient of the “Public Service Award” given by the New York County Lawyer’s Association. The award was presented on September 17, 2015 at the NYCLA offices in the New York City. Jennifer Brown Recipient of NYCLA “Public Service Award"The award recognizes Jennifer Brown’s dedication to serving the poor in the criminal justice system for many years. In addition to representing her own clients with her typical passion and zeal, and managing the other attorneys and staff in our office, Ms. Brown has overseen two enormous projects this year: (1) overseeing the resentencing of hundreds of federal inmates whose sentences were retroactively reduced by the lowering of the federal drug offense guidelines, and handling many of these cases herself, and (2) heading the clemency effort in the SDNY by identifying and helping to prepare petitions for former clients who may be eligible.  Both of these efforts have helped to shave years off sentences for hundreds of people.

Congratulations to Jennifer Brown on this well-deserved honor.
