Peter Kirchheimer is the Attorney-in-Charge of the Eastern District office. He is a graduate of Columbia College and Columbia Law School. Before law school, he was a Peace Corps volunteer in Chile.
Mr. Kirchheimer is a long-time public defender, having worked at the trial and appellate levels in both state and federal courts. He began his career at the Criminal Appeals Bureau of the Legal Aid Society. He then worked as a trial attorney in the Bronx for the Society’s Criminal Defense Attorney, becoming a supervising attorney in 1980. Mr. Kirchheimer has been an attorney with the Federal Defenders in Brooklyn for over 25 years.
