Federal Defenders of New York, Inc. (FDNY) has an opening for a full-time Computer System Administrator (CSA). FDNY is a nonprofit organization providing criminal defense services to indigent persons charged with federal crimes throughout New York City, Long Island, and several counties north of New York City. We have offices in Manhattan, Brooklyn, White Plains, and Central Islip. The successful candidate would primarily work in the Manhattan office but occasional travel to the other offices is required.

We are not a government agency and our employees are not government employees. Our mission is straightforward: although we provide our services free of cost, our clients should receive the finest legal representation available at any price. We are looking for someone who is committed to equal justice and willing to fight vigorously for those accused of crimes. A large part of the caseload involves immigration-related offenses, drugs, fraud, bank robbery, firearms, and internet-related crimes.

Position Description: The successful candidate will be responsible for the infrastructure side of the IT function for the organization. Reporting to the Executive Director and Administrative Officer, the CSA will oversee a team of four (4) Assistant CSAs to ensure that the network and telephone systems support the near and long-term goals of the organization.

The CSA will maintain and develop technical and user documentation for all assigned systems and application, coordinate all IT support services, and ensure integrity and safety of office data. In addition, the CSA will oversee other information technology employees and directly help support lawyers with computer forensics, trial preparation and presentation, and electronic discovery management, including identifying, preserving, processing, and analyzing paper documents and electronically stored information. Familiarity with litigation software would be a great addition. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required at times. Self-study with the capability to adapt to new technologies is a must.

Position Requirements and Qualifications: Minimum qualifications for this position are: (1) some specialized experience with PC’s and networking in a Windows Active Directory environment with Windows 2012 R2/2016 servers; (2) excellent troubleshooting and communication skills (written and verbal); (3) experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe DC, Outlook, Symantec Endpoint Protection, Symantec Backup Exec and Hyper-V virtualization platforms. The CSA must have a working knowledge of Group Policy management, DHCP, DNS, backing up domain controllers (system state/AD information), including racking servers, managing wires, and reviewing hardware/lights for errors. In addition, the CSA provides high caliber network support in an enterprise environment including switches, routers, Ethernet cabling, and TCP/IP diagnostics, supporting 14+ physical servers in multiple locations. Experience with virtual machines such as VMWARE VSphere and/or Hyper V including provisioning servers, high availability, moving servers between physical machines, and VM backups (Snapshots/Veeam) is a plus. Also helpful is experience with network storage, including SAN configuration via iSCSI, basic NAS operation and configuration, provisioning space and allocating to Windows servers. While a Bachelor’s degree is preferred, extended specialized experience in these areas may be substituted. A high school diploma is a necessity.

All claimed experience, certifications, training, and references will be checked.
