APPELLATE ATTORNEY

Federal Defenders of New York (“FDNY”) is seeking applicants for a position as an appellate attorney. FDNY is the federal public defender that provides legal representation for indigent persons who are accused of federal crimes in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. We are vigorous in the defense of our clients, and we are seeking applicants with a similar level of passion and dedication to our clients and our work. The appeals unit represents our clients on direct appeals and habeas corpus proceedings in the Supreme Court, the Second Circuit, and the federal district courts. Applicants must be admitted to the bar of any state or the District of Columbia and have a minimum of two years of legal experience. Demonstrated excellence in legal writing is a prerequisite for the position. The successful candidate will also have strong oral advocacy skills and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively and respectfully with other attorneys, non-legal staff members, and clients. The position will be located in either our Manhattan or Brooklyn office.

The salary range for the position is $127,852 to $191,800, depending on the years and nature of your legal experience. The benefits are excellent.
