Douglas G. Morris graduated from Wesleyan University with a B.A. in history and German, magna cum laude, with High Honors in history, and earned a J.D. from N.Y.U. Law School, after having served on the Law Review. He worked at the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison before joining Federal Defenders in 1989. In 1998, Mr. Morris received the Thurgood Marshall Award from the Association of the Bar of the City of New York for serving “as pro bono counsel to a human being under a sentence of death.”
Mr. Morris also holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Modern European History from the University of Rochester. During the academic year of 2001 to 2002, he was a Fellow at the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullmann Center for Scholars and Writers at the New York Public Library. He is author of Justice Imperiled: The Anti-Nazi Lawyer Max Hirschberg in Weimar Germany (University of Michigan Press 2005) and Legal Sabotage: Ernst Fraenkel in Hitler’s Germany (Cambridge, 2020).
